Explaining a complex topic is often riddled with pages and pages of documentation. Usually within a few pages of that documentation things tend to split off into sub-explanations. Before too long the topics of connectivity get lost in a tangled web of confusion.
It’s topics such as these that simplifying the content into storytelling and presented with light visuals and visual metaphors may be all that is needed to “get it.”
I recently completed a set of 4 loosely drawn animated videos for the Public Health Informatics Institute in an attempt to explain this complicated topic.
The objective was to introduce Informatics at a high level (video 1), and then explain how informatics plays a role in the lives of Practitioners, Program Managers, and Senior Leaders.
Good storytelling and easy-on-the-eyes visuals made this topic easier to digest.
Check out the videos here: Informatics for Everyone.
It’s not easy and a lot of time is invested in scripting and storyboarding, but if you have a topic that needs a simpler explanation or even a topic you want a lead-in marketing video, give me a shout. Would love to draw up a storyboard!

The video is simple and easy to understand. Using animated video’s in explaining is a also a good way of approach. Because not all people can easily understand the details and important information that was explained. Likewise not all people can also understand the video’s directly so in order to compensate for it, using video’s to explaining is good but video’s with direct explanation for the reporter is better.
